D. Hugh Rosenbaum Receives Highest Captive Insurance Industry Honor
March 9, 2006 – D. Hugh Rosenbaum of London, UK, was presented
with the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) 2006 Distinguished
Service Award today at the Opening Session of CICA’s 34th International
Conference in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Rosenbaum is the inaugural recipient
of CICA’s highest award – the Distinguished Service Award
-- which was created to recognize individuals or organizations who have
made significant contributions to advancing the captive insurance industry.
His selection is especially meaningful since his selection will set the
tone and standard for all future recipients.
The award was presented to Mr. Rosenbaum by Terry Young, Chair of the Board of CICA and President of Southern Infiniti Insurance Group, Inc. In recognizing Mr. Rosenbaum’s towering role shaping the captive insurance industry, Mr. Young noted, “Hugh Rosenbaum is one of the forefathers of our industry. When he engaged in a conversation about captives or alternative markets, he often chose not to travel the road of least resistance. He always challenged us to think creatively for breakthrough ideas and caused everyone around him to think aggressively.”
Mr. Rosenbaum is an independent consultant based in London. He is a retired principal of the Towers Perrin office in London, from which he retired in 1999. He was founder and editor of the monthly newsletter Captive Insurance Company Reports and the annual Directory of Captive Insurance Companies, to which he continues to contribute. In addition he co-authored the original monograph Generally Accepted Captive Standards and writes an occasional column entitled “Hugh’s Views” for Captive.com, and for the UK-based Captive Review. He appears frequently as speaker at conferences on captive insurance topics and serves as advisor to boards of directors of captives. He was recently elected to the European Risk Management Hall of Fame and has been made an honorary member of the French Circle of Risk Management Associates.
